In 2019 Helen Haines MP created political history by being the first Independent MP to follow another Independent MP into office following the retirement of Cathy McGowan AO. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Helen Haines’ team, working with Helen to bring about changes and improvements on key issues for the federal electorate of Indi.

The role of the Policy and Parliamentary Business Adviser is to support Helen Haines MP in all aspects of parliamentary business. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. They will enjoy a mix of both team and independent working environments. A good working knowledge of legislation, policy and/or parliamentary process and excellent political nous and stakeholder relationship skills are essential.

The successful applicant will also have a passion for the future of Indi, and appreciation of the history of the election and work of Federal Independents in Indi including the work of the grassroots community democracy.

Available work-bases are: Wangaratta, Wodonga or Canberra.

Remuneration for this position is at Assistant Adviser level – as set out in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984. Conditions are outlined in the Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019.  The successful employment is subject to a national police check.
