Since becoming the Independent Member for Indi, I have worked tirelessly with local communities, councils and other organisations to improve phone and internet connectivity in key affected areas.

I have fond memories of working here as the matron of the Chiltern Bush Nursing Hospital, a very long time ago. I am delighted to see the site evolve and continue to provide important healthcare and mental health services to the community.

I am with my communities 100 per cent on this. Fast-tracking projects and silencing communities is terrible governance.

Agriculture is a major employer for Indi, with more than 5,000 people working in forestry and fishing, fibre and food production.

The key themes of Dr Haines’ Indi Budget Submission reflect the widespread concerns of the electorate right now including increasing regional housing supply, providing cost-of-living relief and improving health outcomes. 

This is a rare opportunity that the Government must grab with both hands. Implementing the recommendations could be transformational for regional, rural and remote communities.

We need all levels of Government to come back to the table to ensure the best decisions are made in the best interests of the health of our communities.

I am devastated to learn of the death of Senator Linda White.

The renewable energy transition is well underway in regional and rural Australia, so the implementation of this report is a matter of urgency. We need to see action and we need it quickly.
